Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated today that India is keen to enhance its relationship with Bangladesh.

Fakhrul made the remarks following a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, which lasted nearly an hour. This marks the first formal discussion between Indian officials and BNP leaders since the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5.

"We raised various issues that Bangladesh faces with India, including the urgent need for a resolution to the water-sharing dispute," Fakhrul said.

He also addressed concerns about border killings, emphasizing the need for an end to such incidents. "They assured us they are vigilant and are actively working to resolve these issues," he added.

Fakhrul noted that India is enthusiastic about fostering greater goodwill and positivity in the bilateral relationship. "They are eager to bring more positivity and goodwill to the relationship," he stated.

Other BNP leaders present at the meeting included Standing Committee member Salauddin Ahmed, Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, and foreign affairs advisory committee member Shama Obaid.
