New York, Oct 01 (V7N) – The United States has called for a comprehensive investigation into the civilian casualties that occurred during recent protests in Bangladesh, urging for full accountability of those responsible for the violence.

During a press briefing on Monday in Washington, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stressed the need for an in-depth inquiry into the deaths of civilians amid the protests and the ensuing crackdown.

Responding to questions about Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus's comments regarding the protests being carefully orchestrated, Miller stated, "There needs to be a full investigation into the loss of civilian lives during these protests and the crackdown in recent months, and accountability must be ensured for anyone found responsible."

When asked about the death of a garment worker in Ashulia, Miller said, "I'll have to look into that and get back to you with a response."

Miller was also questioned about the detention of journalists Shakil Ahmed, Farzana Rupa, Mozammel Babu, Shyamal Dutta, and Mahmudur Rahman without bail. He responded, "We expect press freedom to be upheld in Bangladesh and worldwide."
