Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N): The ongoing floods across twelve districts have inflicted irreversible damage exceeding Tk2,000 crore on livestock, poultry, animal feed, fish, and infrastructure, according to Farida Akhtar, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser to the interim government.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock today, Farida highlighted that the fisheries sector alone suffered damages amounting to Tk1,590.36 crore, affecting 86 upazilas across the Chattogram, Sylhet, and Khulna divisions. The disaster has impacted 180,899 ponds, reservoirs, and farms, with 90,768 metric tons of fish and shrimp, as well as 3,746 million fish fry and post-larvae shrimp, being lost.

Moreover, the livestock sector has seen significant devastation, with cattle farms, poultry feed, and other animal feeds destroyed across the twelve affected districts, resulting in reported damages exceeding Tk411 crore.

Farida outlined three recovery steps for the livestock sector, including the provision of emergency animal feed, vaccinations to prevent disease outbreaks, and the distribution of grass. Additionally, she announced plans to rehabilitate affected fish farmers through easy-term loans, infrastructure support, and improved flood forecasting systems, alongside training and awareness programs to help farmers cope with post-flood conditions.
