Nov 05, V7N- In a stunning upset, Knight's Choice, a rank outsider with 80/1 odds, clinched victory in the 164th Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday. Ridden by Robbie Dolan, the horse surged down the final stretch to narrowly defeat Warp Speed in a photo finish, with Okita Soushi taking third place.

Carrying 51.5 kg, Knight's Choice gave co-trainer Sheila Laxon her second Melbourne Cup win, following her 2001 triumph with Ethereal. An emotional Dolan reflected on the win, saying, "Pinch me, I’m dreaming. I thought my best chance was to get him to stay the trip... and he proved everybody wrong."

The race saw a field of 23 horses after Athabascan, trained by John O'Shea and Tom Charlton, was scratched on Monday due to a heart issue.
