Dhaka, Dec 23, (V7N) - The Victory Day Hockey Tournament, organized by the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF), began on Monday at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium in Dhaka. The opening match featured Bangladesh Navy playing against BKSP.

The tournament has six teams, divided into two groups, competing on a league basis. Group A includes Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Police, and BKSP, while Group B consists of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, and the Hockey Players Welfare Okkiya Parishad. Each team will play against one another in their respective groups to determine the group champions and runners-up.

After the league matches, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The final match of the tournament is scheduled for December 30.

Lt Coln Riazul Hasan (retd), General Secretary of the newly formed Hockey Committee, briefed the press on Sunday, sharing the details of the tournament's structure. The Victory Day Hockey Tournament is part of the ongoing efforts to promote hockey and commemorate Bangladesh's victory in the 1971 Liberation War.

The tournament is expected to showcase top-tier hockey talent and provide an exciting competition leading up to the final match later this month.
