DHAKA, Dec 28, (V7N) — Offspinner Aliss Al Islam is determined to use the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), starting Monday, as a platform to revive his career and reclaim his place in the national team.

After making waves in last year’s BPL with an impressive nine wickets in eight matches — including a standout performance of 4 for 17 against Sylhet Strikers — Aliss earned a call-up to the national side. However, his aspirations were derailed by a finger injury that sidelined him for nearly a year.

Aliss has recently returned to form in the NCL T20, where he played for Dhaka Metro. He picked up 14 wickets in 10 matches with an economical 5.32 runs per over, reminding everyone of his capabilities. Now signed by the Chittagong Kings for this year’s BPL, he is eager to continue his resurgence.

"I missed crucial matches due to the injury, including the Sri Lanka series and the Dhaka Premier League," Aliss said during a Chittagong Kings practice session. "But I’ve worked hard, starting with the NCL T20, and you’ve seen the results."

Aliss credited tours to Australia and Oman for boosting his confidence. "Both tours went well for me personally, and the team performed admirably. They were stepping stones for my return," he explained.

Having faced multiple injuries throughout his career, Aliss is philosophical about setbacks. "Injuries have become a normal part of my journey. What matters now is how I bounce back," he remarked.

Aliss expressed gratitude towards selector Hannan Sarkar for consistent guidance during his rehabilitation. "I kept in touch with Hannan Bhai, discussing cricket and beyond. Their support has been crucial. But now it’s up to me to deliver on the field," he said.

Aliss acknowledged the challenge of returning to the national side. "Earning a call-up again won’t be easy. It’s not about past performances but proving myself repeatedly. BPL is the perfect stage for that," he stated.

With renewed confidence and determination, Aliss Al Islam is ready to showcase his skills and make his mark in the BPL, aiming to cement his place as a key figure in Bangladesh cricket.
