Colombo, July 1 (V7N) — Following the conclusion of the Test series, the Bangladesh national cricket team is set to begin its One Day International (ODI) mission against Sri Lanka. The first match of the three-match ODI series will take place tomorrow, Wednesday (July 2), at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The game is scheduled to start at 3 PM Bangladesh time.

Led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is set to make his debut as ODI captain, Bangladesh is entering the series amid much discussion. The cricketing community has been abuzz over Nazmul Hossain Shanto not being named captain despite leading the Test side, sparking debate about leadership continuity across formats.

The Tigers have been preparing for the challenge, with practice sessions at the match venue since Monday. The team will conduct their final training under floodlights today to acclimatize to match conditions.

Bangladesh's 16-member ODI squad includes the return of Mohammad Naim, who has been recalled after two years away from the national setup.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, who last played an ODI series in February against Australia, have made changes to their squad. Nuwanidu Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Mohammad Siraj have been dropped, with Sadira Samarawickrama, Dilshan Madushanka, and Milan Ratnayake brought in.

The ODI series schedule is as follows:

  • 1st ODI: July 2, Colombo

  • 2nd ODI: July 5, Colombo

  • 3rd ODI: July 8, Pallekele

Fans are eager to see how Bangladesh performs in this crucial series as preparations for future international tournaments intensify.
