Sylhet, Nov 14 (V7N) – Bangladesh secured a commanding victory over Ireland by an innings and 47 runs in the Sylhet Test, wrapping up the match in three and a half days.
After Ireland was bowled out for 286 in the first innings, Bangladesh declared their reply at a massive 587 runs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy starred with 171 runs, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 100. Other notable contributions came from Mominul Haque (82), Sadman Islam (80), and Liton Das (60).
In the second innings, Ireland struggled to avoid an innings defeat. Despite a valiant lower-order effort, the team managed only 254 runs. McBrien made a resilient 52, while Andrew Balbirnie contributed 38 and John Neil 36. Barry McCarthy added 25. A 54-run partnership for the last wicket briefly delayed the inevitable, but Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam closed out the innings.
Bangladesh bowlers dominated throughout. Hasan Murad took 4 wickets, Taijul Islam 3, and Nahid Rana 2 in the second innings. In the first innings, Mehedi Hasan Miraj claimed 3 wickets, while Hasan Murad, Hasan Mahmud, and Taijul Islam took 2 wickets each.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy was named Man of the Match for his outstanding innings, guiding Bangladesh to a decisive win.
