BANGKOK, Feb 14, (V7N): Bangladesh A women's team pulled off a nail-biting 4-run victory over Sri Lanka A at the Terdthai Cricket Ground, defending a modest total of 115 thanks to a match-winning performance from left-arm spinner Sanjida Akter Meghla
Batting first, Bangladesh struggled, collapsing from a strong start to be bowled out for 115 in 19.5 overs, losing their last six wickets for just 34 runs. Openers Ishma Tanjim and Shamima Sultana added 48 for the first wicket, with Ishma finishing as the top scorer for Bangladesh with 30 runs, while Sarmin Sultana contributed 29.
Sri Lanka looked poised to chase down the target, but Sanjida Akter Meghla turned the game around with figures of 3-20, taking key wickets including Sanjana Kavindi (17), Ama Kanchana (23), and Malsha Shehani. Complemented by Fahima Khatun and Lata Mondol, who took two wickets each, Bangladesh managed to restrict Sri Lanka to 111-9 in 20 overs.
Top scorer for Sri Lanka was Hansima Karunaratne with 26 runs.
Bangladesh will now face Thailand in their second Group B encounter on Monday.
