FEB 12 (V7N) - Unofficial results show Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud (Scales symbol) securing victory in Patuakhali-2 constituency.

Masud received 111,491 votes, while his nearest rival, BNP’s Shahidul Alam Talukdar (Sheaf of Paddy symbol), obtained 72,191 votes. Abdul Malek (Hand Fan symbol) came third with 14,159 votes.

Out of 315,000 registered voters across 115 centres, 185,193 cast ballots. The tally included 111,491 “Yes” votes and 60,720 “No” votes.

Dr. Masud currently serves as Secretary of Dhaka South Jamaat and is a member of the party’s central working committee. His victory strengthens Jamaat’s presence in the coastal district.
