Uganda achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever T20 World Cup victory with a tense three-wicket win over Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Providence Stadium on Wednesday. This low-scoring encounter saw Uganda bowl out PNG for just 77 runs. Despite a shaky start, Uganda managed to reach the target in 18.2 overs, thanks largely to Riazat Ali Shah's crucial 33-run knock.

Riazat's performance was pivotal as he formed a key sixth-wicket partnership of 35 runs with Juma Miyagi, who contributed 13 runs. This stand proved decisive for the tournament debutants. PNG, however, missed a crucial chance when Charles Amini dropped a relatively simple catch from Riazat, who was on eight at the time.

PNG's defense was further hampered by some erratic bowling, which included conceding 15 wides. Even though Uganda was reeling at 26-5, Riazat's disciplined innings stabilized the chase. With only three runs needed for victory, he eventually skied a catch to John Kariko at third man, but by then, the game was almost in the bag.

The Ugandan team celebrated their maiden World Cup win with enthusiastic dancing on the field. Captain Brian Masaba expressed his pride, stating, "That's a pretty special win for us. You know, first win at the World Cup. It doesn't get more special than this. I'm super proud of this group of guys."

Uganda's triumph began with a strong bowling performance after Masaba won the toss and opted to field. Alpesh Ramjani set the tone by dismissing PNG captain Assad Vala lbw with the second ball of the innings, resulting in a wicket-maiden opening over. Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta also chipped in with key wickets, leaving PNG struggling at 19-3 in the fourth over.

Despite some resistance from Hiri Hiri (15) and Kiplin Doriga (12), PNG could not recover and were bowled out with five balls to spare. Uganda's disciplined bowling and crucial partnerships ultimately led them to a memorable victory, marking a significant achievement for the team on the world stage.
