Dhaka, August 23 — A murder case has been filed against prominent cricketer and former Awami League Member of Parliament, Shakib Al Hasan, in connection with the killing of garment worker Rubel. The case was registered at Adabar police station on Thursday by Rubel's father, Rafiqul Islam.

According to the police, Shakib Al Hasan has been named as the 28th accused in the case. The complaint alleges that on August 5, Rubel participated in a protest march on the ring road of Adabar. During the protest, it is claimed that someone fired shots, causing Rubel to be critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries on August 7 while being taken to the hospital.

The case lists former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 156 other individuals as co-accused, along with 400 to 500 unnamed persons. The complaint accuses the defendants of orchestrating the shooting through a planned criminal conspiracy aimed at inciting violence.

Inspector Md. Nazrul Islam of the DMP Adabar Police Station confirmed the registration of the case and stated that investigations are ongoing.

This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing political and social unrest, highlighting the complex intersections between public protests and allegations of violent suppression.
