The United Nations has warned that global childhood vaccinations have stalled, leaving an additional 2.7 million children un- or under-vaccinated compared to pre-pandemic levels. This setback has created dangerous gaps in immunization coverage, increasing the risk of outbreaks such as measles, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.

Despite efforts, the percentage of children receiving essential vaccines has remained stagnant, exacerbating risks particularly in conflict-affected regions where access to health services is compromised.

WHO vaccine chief Kate O’Brien emphasized the urgent need to address vaccine hesitancy and logistical challenges to prevent further setbacks in global immunization efforts.
