Cox's Bazar, Sep 02 (V7N) - Students at Cox's Bazar Nursing and Midwifery College presented a demand for the resignation of the entire faculty. When their demand was not met, male students reportedly attacked female students, leading to a standoff where five female teachers and eleven students were held for nearly eight hours. Eventually, following a three-hour meeting involving two resident medical officers from Cox's Bazar General Hospital, the Additional District Magistrate, the army, and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), all teachers resigned from the college. As a result, the college is now left without any teachers.

The students began their protest on Sunday (September 1) afternoon, blocking the five teachers and eleven students from leaving from 3 PM. The teachers finally resigned and left the college around 11:30 PM that night.

The situation was mediated by Dr. GRM Jihadul Islam and Dr. Ashikur Rahman, resident medical officers at Cox's Bazar General Hospital.

Dr. Jihadul Islam stated that multiple attempts were made to resolve the issue during the lengthy meeting. The teachers have resigned according to the students' demands. With the faculty's resignation, the college is now teacher-less, and the Director General of Medical Education and Training (DGMN) will need to address how to resolve the crisis. The hospital authorities and the Additional District Magistrate will send formal communications regarding this issue.

Meanwhile, students expressed satisfaction with the acceptance of their demands but also voiced concerns about security.

Urmi Akhter, the protest coordinator, said, “We demanded a corruption-free campus. Since the entire faculty was involved in corruption, we asked for their resignation. We are satisfied with our demand

being met, but our protest is not over yet. With the college now devoid of teachers, we are facing security concerns. We request that our security be ensured.”
