Kuwait, Nov 12 (V7N) — In a record-breaking move, Kuwait has decided to revoke the citizenship of 930 individuals due to their involvement in various criminal activities and allegations of obtaining citizenship fraudulently. The Gulf News reported this decision on Monday, citing the Acting Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Fahad Al Youssef.

Al Youssef stated that the documentation process for these revocations was completed last Thursday and has since been submitted to the cabinet. After a final review, the documents are expected to be signed in the next cabinet meeting, officially canceling these citizenships.

He also announced that those facing revocation would have an opportunity to apply for reconsideration. A dedicated committee under the General Directorate of Citizenship has been established for this purpose, and affected individuals may submit appeals within a designated time frame.

Kuwait, with a population of around 4.9 million and a land area of 17,818 square kilometres, has seen significant growth in its immigrant population. More than half of the population consists of immigrants, many of whom have acquired citizenship over time. Kuwaiti officials have expressed concerns about the demographic shift, which they believe is marginalizing the country’s native Arab population. In recent years, Kuwait has intensified its efforts to counter illegal immigration and maintain demographic balance.
