- The deceased, Anil Methania , hailed from Surendranagar and had recently been admitted to the medical program at GMERS Medical College.
- On Saturday night , Anil and several other first-year students were allegedly summoned by senior students via a WhatsApp group.
- Reports claim the seniors forced the juniors to stand for three hours continuously , questioning their identities during this time.
- During the ordeal, Anil collapsed suddenly and was rushed to the college hospital's emergency department by his peers.
- Tragically, despite their efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival .
Anil Methania's family has described his death as unnatural and demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the ragging allegations. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of students at educational institutions.
While no official statement has been released by the college administration or local authorities yet, the incident is expected to prompt scrutiny into the anti-ragging measures in place at the institution.
Ragging remains a persistent issue in Indian educational institutions despite the existence of strict anti-ragging laws . The University Grants Commission (UGC) mandates colleges to prevent such practices through awareness programs and disciplinary measures.
Anil’s death underscores the urgent need for educational institutions to enforce zero-tolerance policies and create a safe environment for students.
