New Delhi, Dec 12 (V7N)- Amid ongoing tensions between Bangladesh and India, a meeting between the foreign secretaries of the two nations addressed critical bilateral issues. Representing Bangladesh, Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin met with his Indian counterpart Vikram Mishri, with discussions centered on strengthening cooperation amidst the current political climate.

After returning to India, Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri briefed Indian parliamentarians about the outcomes of the visit. Notably, Mishri addressed concerns regarding the political activities of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in India.

India’s Position on Sheikh Hasina's Activities

According to The Hindu, Mishri informed the parliamentary standing committee on Wednesday that the Narendra Modi government does not endorse Sheikh Hasina’s criticism of Bangladesh’s interim government while she resides in India. He described this as a minor obstacle in bilateral relations, emphasizing that Hasina’s actions were conducted using personal communication tools without any facilitation by the Indian government.

“The Government of India has not provided her with any platform or opportunity to engage in political activities from Indian soil,” Mishri stated.

Focus on People-to-People Relations

Mishri reaffirmed that India’s relationship with Bangladesh transcends any particular political party or government. "Our engagement prioritizes the welfare and aspirations of the Bangladeshi people," he noted, highlighting the broader scope of bilateral ties beyond individual political dynamics.

This statement reflects India’s commitment to maintaining diplomatic relations while navigating the complexities of political sensitivities between the two neighboring countries.
