California, Jan 12, (V7N) - Firefighters are continuing efforts to contain four major wildfires raging in residential areas of Southern California, fueled by unusually strong Santa Ana winds and minimal humidity. The fires, which began on Tuesday, have claimed 11 lives and destroyed thousands of homes and structures across Los Angeles County.
The two largest fires, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, have together burned approximately 37,000 acres. Containment efforts remain challenging, with both fires contained at 15% or less as of Saturday afternoon.
CalFire has warned of worsening conditions, with northeast winds expected to return Saturday night, bringing gusts of up to 30 mph to high elevations and dropping relative humidity to below 20%. The agency has also cautioned that another Santa Ana wind event may occur around Tuesday, potentially exacerbating fire activity.
Emergency services are prioritizing the safety of affected residents while closely monitoring weather patterns. Updates on containment progress and evacuation measures will continue to be provided.
