Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was buried in Moscow on Friday, March 1, two weeks after his death, as reported by the Russian news media Moscow Times.

Navalny was laid to rest at the Borisovsky Cemetery amidst heightened security measures. Prior to the burial, a brief funeral service was conducted at a local Orthodox church.

Despite threats from the Putin administration, thousands of supporters gathered to pay their respects, demanding the construction of a monument at Navalny's burial site. Chants condemning the alleged assassination of the anti-Putin leader echoed through the crowd, but the day passed without any clashes despite the heavy security presence.

Floral tributes from supporters adorned the area, with flowers scattered in front of police barricades.

The funeral was attended by various dignitaries, including US Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy, who paid her respects to Navalny.

Cemetery workers were seen preparing a coffin trolley at the Borisovsky cemetery in readiness for Navalny's burial, while politician Boris Nadezhdin was among those present at Navalny's farewell ceremony.
