Netrakona, July 13 (V7N) – After more than a decade, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has held its biannual upazila council in Kalmakanda, a border subdistrict of Netrakona. The last such council was held in 2014.

This long-awaited council sparked widespread enthusiasm among party members, with campaign posters, banners, and invitation distribution seen throughout the upazila. Party leaders noted that the extended absence of a council had created stagnation in local political activity and hoped this event would bring renewed momentum.

A total of four candidates contested for the position of president, and five for general secretary. MA Khair, the incumbent convenor, and Saidur Rahman Bhuiya were elected as president and general secretary respectively.

The council was inaugurated by Netrakona district BNP president Professor Dr. Anwarul Haque. Chief guest Habiburun Nabi Khan Sohel, Joint Secretary General of the BNP National Executive Committee, addressed the gathering, emphasizing party unity and grassroots reorganization.

Other speakers included BNP Legal Affairs Secretary and Lawyers’ Forum Secretary General Barrister Kaiser Kamal, divisional organizing secretary Shariful Alam, and district-level leaders Shah Wares Ali Mamun, Abu Wahab Akand, and Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali.

The event was presided over by MA Khair and moderated by Anisur Rahman Pathan Babul, the former general secretary and current senior joint convenor. Senior leaders from the central, district, and upazila levels of BNP were also in attendance.
