Seoul, Mar 08 (V7N) – Yun Suk-yeol, the impeached former President of South Korea, has been released from prison after prosecutors decided not to appeal a court order that overturned his arrest warrant. His release came on Saturday, March 8, after a ruling by the Seoul Central District Court on Friday.
The court canceled his arrest warrant, citing technical and legal grounds. Following the ruling, Yun was officially released from the Seoul Detention Center after receiving an official communication from the Seoul Prosecutor’s Office.
Upon his release, Yun bowed to his supporters who gathered outside the detention center. Many waved Korean and American flags in celebration, expressing their joy at the decision.
Yun was arrested in January under charges of inciting rebellion. His arrest had drawn widespread attention, and his release is seen as a significant development in South Korea's ongoing political turmoil.
The decision not to appeal the court's ruling effectively brings an end to his incarceration, although the political implications of the case continue to unfold.
