London, Mar 11 (V7N) – Princess Kate made her return to the royal family’s Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on Monday, marking her first appearance since 2023. She had missed the 2024 service due to her cancer battle.
Joined by her husband, Prince William, Kate was seated next to King Charles III and Queen Camilla. She wore a red dress paired with a matching bow and hat, completing her look with a necklace previously worn by Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. Kate had worn the same necklace during a state visit by the Emir of Qatar in December.
This service also marked King Charles III's return to the event after missing the 2024 service due to his own cancer treatment.
In 2024, Kate was recovering after undergoing abdominal surgery in January, and Buckingham Palace announced that she would not return to public duties until after Easter. Shortly after, it was revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy.
Kate withdrew from the public eye during her treatment but began to make appearances again starting in June, with her first major public event being the Trooping the Colour. By September, she announced that her chemotherapy had concluded.
In January, Kate shared an update, revealing that her cancer was in remission. "It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery," she wrote on social media. "I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support."
