Dhaka, April 18, (V7N) – A delegation from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), a Bangkok-based international election monitoring group, held a meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan this morning.

The four-member delegation was led by ANFREL Executive Director Brija Rosales, and included Maya Bati, Tharindu Abeyaratna, and Afsana Ame. Discussions during the meeting reportedly centered around the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh and the role of international election observers.

Founded in 1997, ANFREL is a non-governmental, independent and non-partisan organization working to promote free and fair elections across Asia. It champions democratic processes grounded in universal and equal suffrage.

ANFREL consists of 27 member organizations from 17 countries, including: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and East Timor.
