Dhaka, Apr 19 (V7N)- Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has voiced the party’s opposition to any delay in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections, emphasizing the importance of a visible roadmap for justice and reforms by the interim government.
Hossain made these remarks during a briefing on Saturday (April 19), while his party delegation held talks with the National Consensus Commission. The meeting took place at the LD Hall of the Parliament Building, starting at 10:30 am, and included eight representatives from the NCP, including Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah.
Akhtar Hossain underscored that while the interim government may require time to ensure visible progress in justice and reforms, it cannot be given an indefinite extension without tangible results. “This government can get as much time as it needs for visible progress in justice and reforms. However, it cannot get time without work. This government will get time on the basis of work,” Hossain said.
He also highlighted the impact of past political events, referencing the 1/11 incident that sparked conflict in the country, and reiterated that the main responsibility of any interim or caretaker government is to ensure the timely conduct of elections.
The NCP, a political party formed after the July uprising, has remained vocal about the need for reforms in the electoral system. The meeting with the National Consensus Commission was part of ongoing discussions about how to structure a government that will effectively organize the upcoming elections.
