New Delhi, Apr 19 (V7N)- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in a phone call to explore opportunities for technological and innovation-based cooperation between India and the United States, according to a report by the BBC.

Taking to social media platform X on Friday (April 18), Modi shared that the discussion centered on the "huge potential for cooperation in the field of technology and innovation." He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the US in these emerging sectors.

The call comes at a significant time, as India is negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with the United States amidst concerns over potential tariff measures under US President Donald Trump’s administration. India has been actively seeking ways to mitigate the economic impact of these policies, particularly in trade and investment.

Modi’s conversation with Musk also took place just days before US Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to visit India—another key signal of deepening Indo-US relations.

Notably, Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet company, has recently signed agreements with two of India’s largest telecom firms and is awaiting government approval to begin operations. The approval would mark a major step toward expanding satellite-based internet connectivity across the country.

The discussion between Modi and Musk underscores New Delhi's focus on next-generation technology, innovation ecosystems, and strategic ties with global tech leaders.
