Dhaka, Mar 15 (V7N) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the rising trend of Islamophobia worldwide, stating that discriminatory policies are fueling violence against individuals and religious institutions.

In a video message on his official X handle on Sunday, marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Guterres highlighted the growing anti-Muslim sentiment across the globe.

"We are seeing an alarming increase in anti-Muslim activities around the world. Due to these discriminatory policies, violence has spread to individuals and religious institutions," he said.

The UN chief urged collective action against Islamophobia, emphasizing the role of online platforms in preventing hate speech and harassment. He called on governments, civil society, and social media companies to work together to ensure a safer and more inclusive environment for all communities.

The International Day to Combat Islamophobia, observed annually on March 15, was designated by the UN to raise awareness and promote efforts to combat religious discrimination worldwide.
