New Delhi, Apr 10 (V7N) – Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has expressed deep concern over the recent developments in Bangladesh, emphasizing that no other country cares more about Bangladesh's welfare than India, and asserting that such care is embedded in India’s DNA.
Speaking on the second day of the Rising India Summit 2025, hosted by News18 at Bharat Mandap, Jaishankar highlighted India’s enduring friendship with Bangladesh and its commitment to the country's stability and progress.
“We are concerned about the situation in Bangladesh. As a country, no one cares more about Bangladesh’s welfare than we do—it is in our DNA,” Jaishankar stated.
Jaishankar also commented on the political climate in Bangladesh, saying:
“We are concerned about some of the contemporary statements emerging from Bangladesh. We are worried about radical trends, and especially about the attacks on minorities in that country.”
On the upcoming national elections, Jaishankar reiterated India’s expectation that Bangladesh would uphold democratic norms:
“As a country with a democratic tradition, we believe elections are vital. They are the way mandates are given and renewed. We hope Bangladesh will follow that path and do the right thing.”
According to Jaishankar, the India-Bangladesh relationship is deeply rooted in people-to-people connections, forged through history, culture, and mutual cooperation. He emphasized the importance of nurturing these ties through peaceful and democratic means.
The remarks, reported by Indian media outlet Firstpost, come at a time of growing international attention on Bangladesh’s internal political developments and shifting geopolitical alignments in the region.
