New Delhi/Islamabad, May 02 (V7N) — Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a critical point, with fears mounting that a military confrontation could erupt at any moment. The situation has sparked widespread international concern, as both nations continue to exchange threats and take aggressive defense measures along the border.
According to Indian media outlet The Economic Times, Pakistan has ramped up its military preparedness by deploying air defense systems and radar installations in the Longewala sector of Rajasthan. Artillery units have also been moved forward to frontline positions.
Simultaneously, the Pakistan Air Force is conducting three large-scale exercises involving F-16s, J-10s, and JF-17 fighter jets. These operations, ongoing since April 29, reflect heightened vigilance amid fears of Indian retaliation following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. India has blamed Pakistan for indirectly supporting the assailants.
In a further show of force, the Pakistani Army carried out full-scale military exercises near the Line of Control (LoC) on Thursday, involving tanks, artillery, and live ammunition. The drills were reportedly launched in response to increased Indian military activity and are seen as preparation to counter any potential aggression.
Tensions intensified following an incident on Wednesday in which Indian troops allegedly opened fire from the Kiani and Mandal sectors of the LoC. Pakistani forces reportedly responded by destroying several Indian posts. The exchange was followed by Pakistan’s large-scale border drills.
Pakistan’s Information Minister warned on Wednesday that India might launch a military strike within 48 hours. In response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the armed forces “operational freedom” to retaliate, further stoking fears of conflict.
In a stark warning, Islamabad has threatened a “strong response” to any incursion, including the possibility of nuclear retaliation if provoked. Officials in both nations have hinted at the gravity of the situation, underscoring the need for urgent diplomatic intervention to prevent a wider war.
As military movements intensify on both sides of the border, the international community remains on edge, urging restraint and peaceful dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
