Washington, June 20 (V7N) — Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. After the meeting, President Trump described the encounter as an honor.

The meeting comes in the wake of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan following heightened tensions after a militant attack in India’s Pahelgam last month. President Trump expressed his gratitude to General Munir for his “outstanding role” in helping to implement the ceasefire.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly revealed that General Munir had nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing Trump’s role in preventing a nuclear conflict between the two countries — a key reason for the invitation to the White House.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “I stopped the war. I love Pakistan. I think Modi is a great man too. I spoke to him last night. We are going to do a trade deal with India.” He further added, “But I stopped the Pakistan-India war. Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a big role on behalf of India in the Indo-Pak ceasefire. And Asim Munir did that work on behalf of Pakistan. Both are nuclear-armed countries. I stopped it.”

The meeting highlights the ongoing US efforts to maintain peace in the volatile South Asian region.
