New York, Aug 28 (V7N) – Fourteen of the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have taken a strong anti-Israel stance over the ongoing famine in Gaza, directly blaming Tel Aviv for the humanitarian crisis. Only the United States sided with Israel.

During the session, the Algerian representative presented harrowing images of malnourished Palestinian children and read an emotional letter written to her 13-year-old son by journalist Maryam Abu Dagga, who was killed in Israeli aggression. In response, Israeli representative Danny Danon dismissed the information as inaccurate, claiming the children had died of other causes, not malnutrition.

Algerian representative Omar Bendjama countered that the incidents are documented in the UN Secretary-General’s report and the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report. A verbal spat ensued between the representatives of Israel and Algeria over the conflicting accounts.

In a joint statement, the 14 UNSC members, including Britain, France, Russia, and China, said the famine in Gaza is man-made and caused by Israeli actions. British representative Barbara Odward called it “the first famine recorded in the Middle East in modern history” and condemned the use of hunger as a weapon, emphasizing that food trucks at the Gaza border remain blocked while children suffer.

The United States, however, defended Israel, questioning the credibility of the IPC report. US representative Dorothy Shea said, “Hunger in Gaza is a real problem, and humanitarian needs must be met. However, the IPC’s recent report is not accurate.”

Security Council members have called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, criticizing the Netanyahu administration for its handling of the crisis.
