Islamabad, Oct 12 (V7N) – Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have intensified, prompting Pakistan to close its main and secondary border crossings on Sunday (October 12).
According to Pakistani officials, the Torkham and Chaman crossings have been shut, along with at least three smaller points: Kharlachi, Angur Adda, and Ghulam Khan. Afghan authorities have not yet commented on the closures. The Pakistan-Afghanistan border stretches approximately 2,600 kilometers (1,600 miles).
The border region has witnessed repeated clashes between Pakistani troops and Taliban fighters, including heavy overnight firing on Saturday. Afghanistan claims it killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during the clashes, while Pakistan’s security forces reported inflicting casualties on Afghan forces, though no official numbers were released.
The closures come amid mounting tensions, following recent Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul and cross-border confrontations, heightening fears of further escalation in the region.
