In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Moscow, France has raised its terror alert to the highest level, Prime Minister Gabriel Atal announced on Sunday. The decision comes after a meeting with senior security and defense officials, convened by President Emmanuel Macron.

The attack at the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow claimed the lives of at least 137 people and is considered the deadliest assault inside Russia in two decades. The Islamic State Khorasan (ISK) has claimed responsibility for the atrocity.

In response to the heightened threat, France is bolstering security measures ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. With the games just months away, the government is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

Prime Minister Gabriel stated that the decision to elevate the terror alert level was prompted by ISK's claim of responsibility for the Moscow attack and the perceived similar threat within France.

France operates on a three-level terror alert system, with the highest level indicating an imminent threat of an attack on French soil. When the highest alert is in effect, security patrols are intensified at key public locations, including train stations, airports, and religious sites. Additionally, stringent security measures are implemented to mitigate potential risks.

The decision to raise the terror alert level evokes memories of the devastating attacks that rocked Paris on November 13, 2015. IS militants launched coordinated assaults on restaurants, bars, and concert halls, resulting in the deaths of 130 individuals through gunfire and suicide bombings.

Since the Paris attacks, France has remained vigilant against the activities of IS and other extremist groups, prioritizing the safety and security of its citizens.
