Islamabad, Feb 22 (V7N) — Pakistan has carried out airstrikes on at least seven militant bases along its border with Afghanistan, targeting positions linked to the militant groups Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
According to a statement issued Sunday by Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the targeted sites were being used as hideouts by militants operating across the border. The ministry said the strikes were conducted in response to a recent wave of suicide bombings inside Pakistan.
Response to Recent Attacks
Officials said the operation followed deadly attacks this month, including a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Islamabad and another incident in the northwestern districts of Bannu and Bajaur. Authorities claim they possess “conclusive evidence” that the assaults were planned and directed by handlers based in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Position
Islamabad stated it has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch cross-border attacks. However, the statement alleged that Kabul has “failed to take concrete steps” to curb such activities.
The government emphasized that while Pakistan remains committed to regional peace and stability, the protection of its citizens remains the top priority, and decisive action will be taken against threats to national security.
