Middle East, Apr 08 (V7N) – A two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran has come into effect following mediation by Pakistan. US President Donald Trump and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the agreement. Israel has agreed to halt military action against Iran, except in Lebanon, and Tehran has guaranteed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain secure during the ceasefire.
Despite the truce, the war, which began on February 28 with attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, has caused thousands of casualties across the Middle East.
According to the US-based human rights organization HRANA, Iran has suffered 3,636 deaths, including 1,701 civilians and at least 254 children. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reported at least 1,900 deaths and 20,000 injuries in Iran.
