Chennai, May 07 (V7N) — Actor-turned-politician Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi on Thursday (May 7) to seek support for forming the next government after his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, falling short of the majority mark of 118 by 10 seats.

The meeting took place at Raj Bhavan in Chennai, where the Governor reportedly asked Vijay several questions regarding his ability to form a stable government and potential support from other political parties.

According to sources, Vijay informed the Governor that five legislators from the Indian National Congress were prepared to support his party. He also expressed readiness to face a floor test in the assembly if invited to form the government.

With the support of Congress lawmakers, TVK’s tally could rise to 113 seats. However, the party would still require additional backing from smaller regional and left-leaning parties such as the Communist Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and Pattali Makkal Katchi to cross the majority threshold.

Political negotiations remain complicated due to existing alliances and ideological differences among regional parties. TVK has reportedly agreed to a Congress condition not to align with parties described as “communal forces.”

If Vijay fails to secure enough support to prove majority in the assembly, the Governor may recommend suspension of the newly elected assembly and the imposition of President’s Rule.

Vijay’s dramatic rise in Tamil Nadu politics has drawn national attention, ending decades of dominance by the two major Dravidian parties — Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
