In response to the recent tragic attack on foreign aid workers in Gaza, Australia has announced plans to appoint special officers to investigate the incident. These appointed officials will collaborate with Israeli authorities to ensure transparency and accountability.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized the importance of preserving all information and evidence related to the attack. She stated that if allegations against Israeli soldiers are substantiated, appropriate action must be taken.

The attack occurred last Monday when a convoy of the World Central Kitchen, a humanitarian organization, was targeted by Israeli forces, resulting in the death of seven volunteers. Among the casualties were individuals from Australia, Britain, Poland, and a US-Canadian dual citizen. The incident sparked international outrage and led to increased pressure on Israel.

In response to the incident, the Netanyahu administration took action by dismissing two officials involved and formally reprimanding senior commanders last Friday.

Minister Wong reiterated Australia's commitment to transparency and accountability, expressing her expectations to Tel Aviv in a formal letter. The Australian government will appoint a special officer to participate in the Israeli investigation process to ensure thorough scrutiny.

She underscored that attacks on aid workers are unacceptable and that all parties involved have expressed concern over the incident. Minister Wong emphasized the need for appropriate action to be taken if the investigation reveals any wrongdoing by members of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
