Gaza Strip. Jun 23 (V7N)- Nearly one million people are still living in tents and temporary shelters across the war-affected Gaza Strip as summer conditions begin to intensify, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).

The organization reported that, based on figures from the Shelter Cluster coordinating emergency housing support in Gaza and the West Bank, around 170,000 families are currently living in tents. In addition, approximately 5,000 families are sleeping in open areas, while another 52,000 families are sheltering in overcrowded and inadequate facilities.

The NRC warned that around 850,000 people still lack essential emergency shelter materials such as plastic sheets, plywood, and ropes, worsening an already severe humanitarian situation.

The report highlights that the crisis is not only driven by weather conditions but is also the result of widespread destruction, repeated displacement, and significant barriers to humanitarian aid delivery. The situation has left millions without stable housing even after nearly 987 days of ongoing conflict.

Humanitarian agencies caution that rising summer temperatures—expected to reach up to 34.5°C—could further intensify suffering among displaced populations. Aid groups are urging immediate scaling up of shelter supplies and reconstruction efforts to prevent what they describe as a potential humanitarian catastrophe in the coming weeks.
