Dhaka, Aug 15 (V7N)- Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has said that relations between Bangladesh and India are rooted in shared history, mutual respect and partnership.

He made the remarks at a flag-hoisting ceremony held on Saturday (August 15) to mark India's 80th Independence Day.

The Indian High Commissioner said cooperation between the two countries is expanding across several important areas, including trade, connectivity, security and healthcare.

He said people-to-people contact remains the foundation of the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and India, and called for continued cooperation between the two countries to achieve shared prosperity.

Later, Dinesh Trivedi read out a message of greetings from the President of India on the occasion of Independence Day.

He also formally hoisted the Indian national flag as the national anthem was played.

Officials and employees of the Indian High Commission, Indian citizens living in Dhaka and guests from different sectors of Bangladeshi society attended the ceremony.
