Kenya mourns the loss of its military chief, General Francis Omondi Ogolla, who tragically perished in a helicopter crash along with nine other army officers. President William Ruto confirmed the devastating news in a press conference, shedding light on the somber incident that unfolded in Elgo Marakwet County, approximately 400 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, the capital.

Among those who lost their lives in the crash were Brigadier Swale Saidi, Col Duncan Kitani, Lt Col David Sawe, Maj George Benson Magondu, Capt Sora Mohammed, Capt Hilary Litali, Snr Sgt John Kinua Murethi, Sgt Cliffons Omondi, and Sgt Rose Navira. Only two individuals survived the tragic accident.

President Ruto expressed profound sorrow for the nation, emphasizing the gravity of the loss. He revealed that the helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff, prompting an emergency meeting of the Security Council and the formation of an investigation team from the Kenya Air Force to probe the cause of the crash.

In honor of the fallen soldiers, Kenya will observe three days of mourning, commencing on Friday. The nation will pay tribute by flying the national flag at half-mast during this period, mourning the loss of brave individuals who dedicated their lives to serving their country.
