Tragedy has struck Tanzania as the country grapples with devastating landslides triggered by incessant heavy rains, resulting in a significant loss of life and widespread destruction. According to reports, at least 155 people have lost their lives, while another 236 individuals have sustained injuries in the wake of the calamity.

Tanzanian Prime Minister Kasim Majaliwa addressed Parliament, shedding light on the dire situation unfolding across the nation. He attributed the intensifying rainfall to the El Niño climate pattern, exacerbating the ongoing rainy season and leading to widespread flooding, landslides, and destruction of vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and railways.

El Niño, a natural climate phenomenon, is known for its global impact, often causing both droughts and heavy precipitation patterns.

Prime Minister Majaliwa emphasized the extent of the devastation, highlighting that a significant portion of the country has been affected by the severe weather conditions, impacting over 200,000 individuals and 51,000 families. In response to the crisis, emergency services are actively engaged in rescue efforts to aid the affected population.

The situation remains critical as Tanzania grapples with the aftermath of the landslides and endeavors to provide relief and support to those affected by the relentless rains and ensuing natural disasters.
