In a shocking incident in Hainault, east London, a sword-wielding man attacked pedestrians and police officers, leaving five people seriously injured. The assailant, a 36-year-old man, was arrested on the spot by the police, as reported by BBC News.

According to local witnesses, the assailant drove a car into a house in the Thorlow Garden area around seven in the morning London time. Subsequently, he proceeded to attack individuals inside the house with a sword.

Upon receiving complaints from locals, law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended the attacker.

While the London Metropolitan Police have not disclosed the identity of the assailant, British Home Secretary James Cleverly clarified that the incident was not a terrorist attack.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan commended the police for their prompt response in arresting the attacker at the scene.

A spokesperson for the police stated, "We learned that the suspect attempted to attack other individuals and two police officers. We are awaiting updates on the condition of the injured."

The 36-year-old assailant was taken into custody by the police at the scene of the attack.
