Khyber, June 11, 2024 - Seven Pakistani army personnel, including a captain, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Laki Marwat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack occurred on Sunday and targeted a vehicle carrying army personnel.
The vehicle was en route to the Kachi Kamar area when it was attacked near Sultankhel village, which borders Punjab's Mianwali district. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan's military, the blast claimed the lives of:
- Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas (26), resident of Kasur
- Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir (50)
- Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar (34)
- Lance Naik Hussain Ali (34)
- Sepoy Asadullah (33) of Multan
- Sepoy Manzoor Hussain (27) of Gilgit
- Sepoy Rashid Mehmood (31) of Rawalpindi district
In response to the attack, ISPR stated that operations are ongoing to eliminate terrorists in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The military has pledged to bring the criminals involved to justice, emphasizing their commitment to eradicating the threat of terrorism despite the necessary sacrifices.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan have strongly condemned the attack on security forces in the Shahab Khela area of Gandapur Laki Marwat district.
In a related incident, terrorists launched an ambush on a security check post in Bajaur. The attack occurred at night in the Miyagano area of Khar tehsil. Armed with multiple weapons, including rocket launchers, the terrorists attacked a police post.
Local police officers quickly responded to the attack, and an investigation is underway to identify the attackers and their accomplices.
