Selangor, 24 June 2024 — The Malaysian Immigration Department has detained 1,700 immigrants, including citizens from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, and Myanmar, for violating immigration laws. The arrests took place on Sunday afternoon (June 23) during a raid in the residential area of Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad Flats in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Port Klang, Selangor.

The operation was led by the Selangor Immigration Department with support from the General Operations Team (PGA), Royal Klang City Council (MBDK), and various other agencies. A total of 298 members participated in the raid, which included cordoning off the surrounding area to secure the operation site.

While the nationalities of the detainees include Indonesians, Bangladeshis, Nepalis, and Myanmar nationals, the exact number of Bangladeshis detained has not been specified.

Director of the Immigration Department, Khairul Aminus Kamruddin, informed the press that the detainees have been transported to the Selangor Immigration Office for further processing. Kamruddin mentioned that even foreign nationals whose documentation processes are ongoing for legalization have been detained.

The director emphasized the importance of adhering to immigration laws and stated that the department will continue its efforts to enforce these laws strictly.

This large-scale operation highlights Malaysia's ongoing efforts to manage and regulate its immigrant population, ensuring that all foreign nationals comply with legal requirements. The crackdown also serves as a reminder for undocumented immigrants about the importance of legal documentation and the consequences of violating immigration laws.

Authorities have assured that the detainees will be processed according to legal protocols, with ongoing investigations to determine their individual cases and potential deportation. This incident underscores the need for comprehensive immigration reform and enforcement to address the challenges posed by undocumented migration.
