Pune, July 1, 2024 — In a heartbreaking incident, seven members of the same family, including women and children, were swept away by a sudden surge of water at a waterfall in Lonavala, Pune district. The tragic scene was caught on camera, capturing the family's desperate struggle against the powerful current.

Indian media outlet NDTV reported that the family had been vacationing in the hill country and had ventured to the waterfall when the water level was low. However, a sudden increase in water flow from a nearby barrage turned the serene setting into a deadly torrent. Stranded on a rock, the family members clung to each other and cried out for help, but the strong current prevented onlookers from reaching them.

Despite the efforts of hundreds of tourists on the shore, who heard the family's screams but were unable to intervene, the rock they were on eventually gave way. Two family members managed to swim to safety, while the bodies of three others have been recovered. The search for the remaining victims continues.

The location of the waterfall is near Vushi Badh in Pune, a popular destination for tourists during the monsoon season. This incident has raised serious questions about safety measures in the area, prompting calls for better precautions to protect visitors.

Local authorities are investigating the incident and have urged tourists to exercise caution when visiting natural water bodies, especially during the monsoon season when water levels can change rapidly.
