Jerusalem, July 4, 2024 – A series of rocket attacks by Hezbollah has ignited significant fires in at least three locations in northern Israel, according to a report by The Times of Israel on Thursday. The attacks have led to widespread fires in the Galilee and Golan Heights regions, causing extensive damage and disruption.
The Israeli fire services are working to contain the fires, which have spread to at least ten locations since the morning of the rocket and drone attacks. A major highway in the Golan Heights has been closed due to the wildfires, causing significant inconvenience to local residents.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Hezbollah launched approximately 200 rockets and 20 drones from Lebanon into northern Israel. Some of the projectiles were intercepted by air defenses and fighter jets. In retaliation, the IDF attacked several Hezbollah bases.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks, stating they were in response to the killing of a senior commander, Muhammad Nimah Nasser, also known as 'Hajj Abu Nameh.' The rockets targeted military sites, including the Nafah Barracks of the Golan Division Headquarters and the Keila Barracks of the Air and Missile Defense Headquarters in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The attacks follow the death of Muhammad Nimah Nasser, a top Hezbollah commander, who was killed in an Israeli strike in the Hosh area of southern Lebanon. This marks the killing of a senior Hezbollah commander on the Israel-Lebanon border for the first time in almost nine months.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue their military engagements. The recent escalation underscores the fragile nature of the region's security and the potential for further conflict.
