Philippines, 11 July - A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 shook the Southeast Asian country of the Philippines on Thursday (July 11). The earthquake struck Mindanao island, according to reports from the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) and Reuters.

The GFZ reported that the earthquake's depth was approximately 630 kilometers (391.46 miles) beneath the surface. Despite the significant magnitude, there were no immediate reports of casualties. The Philippine seismology agency stated that no damage is expected from the quake, though aftershocks are possible.

This recent tremor echoes a similar event from January this year when the country experienced an earthquake of the same magnitude. Following the initial quake, a tsunami warning was briefly issued for coastal areas, but it was later lifted, allowing residents to return to their homes.

As the Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is prone to frequent seismic activity. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for any potential aftershocks or secondary impacts.
