Nairobi, 13 July – President William Ruto announced the dismissal of all cabinet ministers on Thursday following weeks of intense and bloody clashes over tax hikes. The decision, which spared only Deputy President Rigathy Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, comes after a comprehensive assessment and review of the government’s progress.

Speaking to reporters in the capital, President Ruto acknowledged the high expectations Kenyans have for his administration. "I am very aware that the expectations of the common people of Kenya on me are very high," he said. "They believe this administration can bring about the biggest change in our nation's history."

The country has been in turmoil since June 25, when massive protests against the tax hike resulted in the deaths of at least 22 people. On that day, demonstrators, fueled by widespread anger, stormed the parliament and caused significant damage. In response to the escalating situation, President Ruto repealed the controversial tax law on June 26.

Despite the withdrawal of the law, public outrage did not subside. Continued protests against the government led President Ruto to take the drastic step of dismissing all members of his cabinet in an effort to restore calm and address the grievances of the Kenyan people.
