The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has formally accused Israel of responsibility for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. The accusation was made in a statement issued after an emergency meeting held by the OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, August 7.

The OIC strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a "heinous attack" and a grave violation of Iran's sovereignty. The statement asserted that Israel, as the occupying power, is accountable for the assassination, which occurred in Tehran on July 31.

Ismail Haniyeh, one of the top leaders of Hamas, a pro-Palestinian independence organization, was killed in the Iranian capital, a development that has further strained relations in the region. Following the incident, both Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and Hamas pointed fingers at Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, accusing it of orchestrating the killing.

Despite these allegations, Israel has yet to issue an official response to the OIC’s statement. The Israeli government has consistently denied any involvement in the assassination since the news first broke.

The OIC's declaration underscores the ongoing tension between Israel and Muslim-majority nations, particularly concerning issues related to Palestine and the broader Middle East conflict. This incident is likely to further complicate diplomatic relations and exacerbate regional unrest.
