Upper Dir, August 30- A landslide in the Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan's northwestern province, has resulted in the tragic deaths of twelve family members, including nine children. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Maidan area of Upper Dir, as reported by Pakistan-based Geo News.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the bodies of the twelve victims were recovered from beneath the rubble and transported to the hospital. Local authorities detailed that the deceased included two women, one man, and nine children, all belonging to the same family.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Barrister Saif emphasized the government's solidarity with the affected families during this challenging time, stating, "We stand by the bereaved family in this difficult time." He also highlighted that precautionary measures have been taken to mitigate the damage caused by natural disasters and warnings about potential landslides and floods in hilly areas have been issued.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall across several regions, including Sindh, Northeast and South Balochistan, Northeast and Central Punjab, Potohar region, Islamabad, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Kashmir. The department also warned of possible landslides in hilly regions such as Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir, and GB.

Authorities are urging residents in these vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of intense weather activity.
