Philadelphia, Sep 11 (V7N)– Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris warned that if Donald Trump's policies are implemented, the United States will face an economic recession within the next year. Harris made the claim during a live debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, held on Tuesday evening at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

The 90-minute debate, broadcast by ABC News and moderated by David Muir and Lynsey Davies, covered crucial topics such as the economy, abortion rights, the Ukraine conflict, and the Gaza war. Major networks like BBC, CNN, and Channel 4 also broadcast the event, which is being viewed as a pivotal moment ahead of the November 5 US presidential election.

During the debate, Harris criticised Trump’s economic record, claiming that when he left office, unemployment levels were at their worst since the Great Depression. She added that 16 Nobel-winning economists have spoken out against Trump’s economic policies, warning that their implementation could trigger a recession.

“Donald Trump has no plan for the American people. He’s more concerned about protecting himself than helping Americans,” Harris said. She also accused Trump of prioritising tax cuts for billionaires and corporations.

In response, Trump defended his economic policies, highlighting his success in imposing tariffs on countries like China, which he claimed brought billions of dollars into the US economy. He dismissed Harris’s claims and reiterated that his policies had benefitted the country.

With swing states likely to determine the outcome of the election, the debate is seen as a key opportunity for both candidates to win over undecided voters.
